Bison golf in two triangulars

The North Iowa Bison golf team had a tough week with two third place finishes in a pair of triangulars. The team traveled to Bancroft on Tuesday, Apr. 21, where the boys played against Bishop Garrigan and North Union. It proved to be an extremely tight contest, with Garrigan and North Union tying with 154 points each, while North Iowa was close behind with 160.

Bechtel sisters will play college basketball together

Sisters Grace and Kate Bechtel are both headed to the University of Wisconsin-Superior to play basketball. The Lake Mills High School seniors signed with the yellowjackets last Wednesday, Apr. 22, with their parents, Chad and Shannyn, and their brother, Emerson, by their side.

Area girls’ teams compete at Lady Cardinal Relays

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura hosted two classes of competition for the Lady Cardinal Relays on Tuesday, Apr. 21, including three teams from Winnebago County. The Forest City and Lake Mills girls competed in Class A, where the Indians won first place and the Bulldogs took third, while the North Iowa girls competed in Class B and placed sixth.

Viergutz’s volleyball career continues at Grand View

Tarra Viergutz will play volleyball with the Grand View Vikings this fall, as she committed to Grand View University during a signing event last Wednesday, Apr. 15. The North Iowa senior plans to study sports management along with business management at Grand View, and she says her goal is to become a volleyball coach and own a jewelry business.

Reynolds breaks record on his way to Drake Relays

Forest City junior Holden Reynolds broke a 28-year-old record track record while competing at Bulldog Relays last Thursday, Apr. 16 in Lake Mills. Reynolds set a new Forest City record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.04, which was good enough to also qualify for the Drake Relays in Des Moines.

North Iowa second in class at Lady Bison Relays

North Iowa High School had a warm and windy day for the annual Lady Bison Relays last Thursday, Apr 16 at the North Iowa athletic complex. Twelve teams competed across two classes, and North Iowa finished second among seven team in Class B.

North Iowa girls open outdoor season at Clarion

The North Iowa Lady Bison finally had the chance to compete in their first outdoor track & field meet of 2026 on Tuesday, Apr. 14 at the Cowgirl Relays in Clarion. Inclement weather over the previous two weeks put the brakes on two previously scheduled meets.

Lake Mills hosts Bulldog Relays

The Lake Mills boys’ track & field team hosted competition from 14 schools for the annual Bulldog Relays last Thursday, Apr. 16 in Lake Mills. The Bulldogs took fifth place in the event, as they set 13 new personal records.

Lake Mills and Forest City boys compete at Clear Lake

The Lake Mills Bulldogs set six personal records on their way to a sixth-place finish among 10 teams at the Clear Lake boys track & field invitational on Tuesday, Apr. 14.

Knute Rogne and Hayden Thompson both surpassed the meet record in the 3200 meters, which Rogne won with a time of 10:00.49, and Thompson came in second at 10:15.10.

Indians win first home golf meet

The Forest City boys and girls both took first place in their first home golf meet of the season on Tuesday, Apr. 14 at Bear Creek Golf Course.

Ham medals twice during full week for Lake Mills golf

The Lake Mills Bulldogs got in a full round of golf before severe weather rolled in last Monday, Apr. 13, when they traveled to Eagle Grove for a triangular.

Four move on to State Special Olympics

Four athletes from Forest City are moving on to the State Special Olympics competition for track & field, after taking first place in several events at the North Area Special Olympics in Spirit Lake on April 14.

Michael Christ took first place at Spirit Lake in the standing long jump, and he also finished third in the softball throw.

Forest City girls win at Cowgirl Relays

The Forest City Indians claimed their first team victory of the track & field season last Tuesday, Apr. 14, when they won the Cowgirl Relays in Clarion.

“It was a really good meet for us; it demonstrated both our depth and individual talent,” said Head Coach Jason Sopko.
