Bulldog girls hope to extend a successful year of sports into the summer

The Lake Mills softball team is building chemistry this summer, and the Bulldogs hope their other athletic successes throughout the past year will translate to the softball diamond.

Indian boys win three in a row

The Forest City Indians secured their first wins of the 2026 baseball season, as they won three in a row last week. The boys opened the week with a 10-0 win over Eagle Grove on Tuesday, May 26. The Indians had big innings in the third and fifth to put the game away in five innings.

Lake Mills baseball starts with two wins and two losses

The Lake Mills baseball team got their summer season off to a balanced start last week, as they compiled a 2-2 record in the span of four days. The boys played West Hancock for their season opener at Britt on Tuesday, May 26, in a tight contest that went the Eagles’ way in a 2-1 loss for the Bulldogs.

North Iowa softball off to a slow start

The Lady Bison are still searching for their first win on the softball diamond, after a busy first week. North Iowa hosted Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on Tuesday, May 26, as the girls put together 12 hits and eight runs but fell short after the Cardinals rallied for five runs in the seventh inning. North Iowa trailed, 12-8.

Forest City softball opens season 2-1

The Forest City Indians picked up a nice win at home to open their softball season on Tuesday, May 26, when they took on Eagle Grove. The Eagles got off to an early lead with single runs in the first and second innings, but the Indians caught up with three runs in the bottom of the second, and they held the Eagles scoreless for the rest of the night.

Bulldog girls begin the summer 0-3

The Lake Mills Bulldogs had a challenging first week for their summer softball season, resulting in three losses to start the year. The girls headed to Britt for their season opener on Tuesday, May 26, where they fell 8-3 against the West Hancock Eagles. The Bulldogs couldn’t get any rallies going, with single runs spread throughout the third, sixth, and seventh innings.

Bison baseball team drops three games

The North Iowa Bison had some close games last week but closed out the month of May with a trio of losses. The boys hosted GHV for their home opener in Buffalo Center on Tuesday, May 26, where a tight match crumbled apart in the sixth inning, as the Cardinals scored eight runs. GHV won 10-3, to deal the Bison their first loss of the summer.

Bison win baseball season opener at GTRA

The North Iowa Bison got the summer started with a win last Tuesday, May 19 at GTRA, in their baseball season opener. The Bison didn’t give up a single run as they led 2-0, while collecting four hits for the night and scoring both their runs in the sixth inning.

Indians drop first two baseball games

The Forest City Indians opened their baseball season against tough competition last week, starting with perennial State Tournament contenders Newman Catholic on Tuesday, May 19. The boys faced off on Newman’s home turf, and Forest City outhit the Knights, 9-3, but Newman won it with a pair of late-game runs, 2-0.

Winter finishes golf season at District meet

North Iowa’s Archer Winter had a good day at the District golf meet at Rice Lake Golf & Country Club on Tuesday, May 19. Winter competed individually as the sole golfer to advance past Sectionals for the Bison, and he shot an 81 at Districts despite the cool and windy conditions.

Lake Mills senior Knute Rogne ran the best races of his life to bring home a pair of State Championships and set three school records at the 2026 State track meet.

Winter moves on to second round for North Iowa

North Iowa junior Archer Winter advanced to the District golf meet at Rice Lake scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, after finishing fourth at Turkey Valley on Wednesday, May 13. Winter was the only golfer to move on for the Bison, who finished sixth in the team standings with a score of 373. South Winneshiek led with a score of 314, followed by Central Elkader with 332. North Iowa sends four events to State Track & Field

The North Iowa girls and boys will both send some of the best athletes in the state to Des Moines this week for the State Track & Field Championships.

The Lady Bison team advanced three events during the State Qualifier meet held in Saint Ansgar on a stormy evening Thursday, May 14.
