Lady Bison volleyball gears up with camps

The North Iowa Lady Bison volleyball team will take part in two camps next week, as the girls prepare for the fall sports season. The high school team will take part in a camp at the school in Buffalo Center on Monday through Friday, August 3-5. Then, the returning varsity players will take part in a camp in Johnston on August 6-7 to face some schools the girls don’t normally get to see.

Gruis Ladies Club Tournament Champions

Jackie Richardson is the open division winner of the 2026 Gruis Ladies Club Tournament, which took place Thursday, July 23 at Gruis Recreation Area. Richardson led with a score of 41 during a beautiful, sunny day for the 9-hole tournament.

Indian football camps begin Monday

The Forest City Indians will host football camps for multiple grade levels next week. The high school football camp is scheduled for August 3-10 from 4-7 p.m. each day. Grades 3-6 will have a camp on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 8-10 a.m., and grades 7-8 will also have a camp on August 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

North Iowa cross country camp next week

North Iowa will host a no-cost cross country camp open to every middle or high school boy and girl in the North Iowa school district next Monday through Friday, August 3-7. The camp will meet on the east side of the school in Buffalo Center each day at 8 a.m.

2026 Gruis Junior Golf Tournament

After a rainy morning and a 15-minute late start, it turned out to be a beautiful day for the Gruis Junior Golf Tournament on Monday, July 20. Twenty-three young golfers came out to play and that is exactly what they did – with some great scores for the day. Medals were awarded to the first, second, and third place finishers in each division.

Twenty-seven area athletes are among the stand-out All-Conference players in the Top of Iowa Conference-West this summer for baseball and softball.

Lake Mills suffers narrow defeat at Regionals

The Lake Mills softball team rallied hard in their first-round Regional tournament game on Monday, July 6 at Riceville. The Bulldogs found themselves at a substantial deficit early on, with the Wildcats building a 6-0 lead in the first two innings.

Indians end season at District Championship game

The Forest City Indians jumped into District tournament action in the semifinal round on Tuesday, July 7, after receiving a bye in the quarterfinals. The Indians faced off against Eagle Grove at Pocahontas for their third game together this summer. After two previous wins during conference play, the Indians beat the Eagles again on Tuesday, leading 5-1 to advance to the District Championship game.

Bulldogs make it to final round of Districts

The Lake Mills baseball team made it deep into the Class 1A, District 3 tournament bracket last week. The boys continued their success after defeating West Bend-Mallard on July 3, when they took on Bishop Garrigan at home last Tuesday, July 7 in the semifinals.

Forest City girls trail in final games of the summer

The Indians softball team finished out their regular season with a non-conference game against Crestwood on Tuesday, July 7. The Indians had hosting duties in a close match, which was tied 4-4 heading into the sixth. The Indians scored a pair of runs in both the first and third innings.

North Iowa falls to Saint Ansgar at Regionals

The North Iowa softball season came to an early close in the first round of the Class 1A, Region 5 tournament on Monday, July 6, when the Lady Bison played faced Saint Ansgar on the road. The Saints wasted no time building a double-digit lead, as they pulled away 10-0 in the first inning and extended their advantage by seven runs in the second.

Indians end regular season with wins over B-K, Bishop Garrigan

With a first round bye already secured there wasn’t much more to prove.

Lady Bison close regular season with losses

The North Iowa softball team opened their final week of conference play by hosting Bishop Garrigan on Monday, June 29, in what was expected to be a tough match following a 12-2 loss in their previous meetup on June 8. The Lady Bison managed to pull into an early 3-2 lead after scoring three runs in the first inning, but the Golden Bears came back in a big way to score 17 runs in the second.

Bulldog Boys win two conference games and advance at districts

The Lake Mills baseball team is finishing the year strong, including two wins to cap off conference play last week. The Bulldogs took on North Union at Bancroft on Monday, June 29 and shut out the Warriors in one of their lowest scoring games of the season, winning 3-0. Lake Mills scored once in the second inning and added to their lead with two runs in the fourth.

Indians best Belmond-Klemme, Bishop Garrigan in final week

Two road games proved not to be a problem. 

As the regular season came to an end for the Forest City softball team, they were able to cap off the season with two wins.
