Blood drives this month throughout Winnebago County

LifeServe Blood Center will conduct three blood drives throughout Winnebago County during the month of July. Make an appointment now to give blood in Buffalo Center, Lake Mills, or Forest City.

Scarville on the Fourth celebration Saturday

The community of Scarville will celebrate America’s big 250th birthday this Saturday, July 4, with a day full of activities.

The morning begins with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at Scarville Lutheran School, located at 411 Logan Street. The meal runs from 7-10 a.m. and features pancakes, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, orange juice, and coffee for a freewill donation.

Lake Mills prepares for July Jubilee

An exciting weekend is in store July 10-12 in Lake Mills, during the annual July Jubilee celebration.

Free food brings community together at Buffalo Center Farmers Market

A new monthly feature is providing a boost to the Buffalo Center Farmers Market. Visitors to the market enjoyed the first of three free monthly meals last Tuesday, June 23, and many vendors came out to take advantage of all the foot traffic.

Amy Walk helped to get the meal started, along with the help of fellow volunteers.

Fair parade to honor military veterans

As America celebrates its 250th birthday this summer, the Winnebago County Fair will honor the men and women who have fought to secure our enduring freedom. All military veterans and active-duty members of the military are invited to be recognized as grand marshals for the 2026 Winnebago County Fair Parade on Sunday, July 19.

4th of July fireworks in Buffalo Center

The Buffalo Center Volunteer Fire Department will put on their annual fireworks show for the 4th of July this Saturday evening at Bison Field in Buffalo Center. Festivities begin at dusk, around 9:30 p.m., with a short ceremony preceding the fireworks display. The rain date is Sunday, July 5. The show is made possible thanks to donations at the annual Buffalo Center Pancake Day.

Pilot Knob activities on the 4th

The Friends of Pilot Knob invite the community to celebrate Independence Day at Pilot Knob State Park this Saturday, July 4.

Helen Hinman Dwelle DAR Chapter celebrating America 250

On Monday afternoon, June 22nd, 2026, the Helen Hinman Dwelle ISDAR (Iowa Society Daughters of the American Revolution) Chapter met at Gerry Arnold's home. The meeting was called to order by Colleen Lawler, Chapter Regent, opening with recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, Daughter’s Creed, The American’s Creed, and The Preamble to the Constitution, a prayer, and old and new business.

Molencamp Physical Therapy branches out to Forest City

The Forest City YMCA will soon be home to a new physical therapy clinic, as Molencamp Physical Therapy is set to open this July. This will be the first location outside of Clear Lake for the business, which Tim Molencamp, DPT, started in 2021.

WCTA and Aureon support causes throughout the county

WCTA Fiber Internet and Aureon recently presented grants to several local organizations through their longstanding community grant program. For more than 30 years, WCTA and Aureon have partnered to support projects that strengthen and enhance rural Iowa communities.

Thompson Lions host annual chicken barbecue

The Thompson Lion’s Club completed another successful chicken barbecue on Saturday, June 20, and continued what is a Lion’s Club tradition. The meal consisted of a half chicken, coleslaw, chips, beans, a bun and bottle of water.

Forest City Library welcomes 70 kids for summer reading program

The Forest City Public Library summer reading program is off to a great start. The theme of this year’s program is “Plant a seed, Read.” There are over 70 children registered. Children contract by age to read minutes during the 6-week program.

Walk shares gardening lesson at Buffalo Center Library

Mary Walk, representing the Winnebago County Farm Bureau, read the book “I Love Blueberries” by Shannon Anderson to summer reading kids on Tuesday, June 23 at the Buffalo Center Public Library. The book was donated by the Winnebago Farm Bureau and can be checked out at the Buffalo Center Public Library.
