The annual Bison Days Fun Run/Walk welcomed competitors for 5K, 10K, and 1-mile races on Saturday morning, July 25 in Buffalo Center.

Barb and Doug Murra of Buffalo Center had the honor of serving as Grand Marshals for the 2026 Bison Days Parade last Friday evening in Buffalo Center. The Murras spent 15 years running prominent businesses in downtown Buffalo Center, including Murra Hardware from 2009-2023 and Main Street Market from 2017-2024.

The State of Iowa will allow eighth graders to participate in all high school sports beginning this fall, pending approval from their schools. The North Iowa School Board established eligibility guidelines for North Iowa eighth graders during its July 20 meeting.

The Winnebago County Community Foundation (WCCF) held its 2026 grant awards celebration on Wednesday, July 23, at the Forest City Community Center, announcing the distribution of $144,194.34 to 16 local nonprofit organizations through its 2026 grant cycle. Grants were awarded to projects improving quality of life and creating long-term impact in Winnebago County communities.

The Buffalo Center Historical Society hosted an Antiques Roadshow as part of Bison Days on Sunday, July 26, while also offering an ice cream social at the Heritage Town Center. The group served brownie sundaes to 35 guests, and several people also presented family treasures.

Buffalo Center hosted a patriotic parade last Friday evening, July 24, to help kick off the annual Bison Days celebration and to commemorate America’s 250th birthday in 2026. The auto tour route at Union Slough National Wildlife Refuge will be open from Saturday, Aug. 1 through Monday, Sept. 21. Visitors are welcome to drive cars, trucks, and side-by-side UTVs on the tour route from sunrise to sunset during those dates.

Hello from Timely Mission! It was a wonderful, cool July week here at Timely Mission, and we stayed busy with lots of fun activities. We enjoyed our weekly Social Hour, played plenty of Farkle, bingo, Wii bowling, and spent quality time together throughout the week.

A large group gathered to be part of the ecumenical worship service Sunday, July 19, at the Winnebago County Fair.  The group gathered prior to services for cinnamon rolls, coffee, and orange juice, which were provided. The service was led by Pastor Zech Anderson, who was assisted by Carolyn Flo. There was joyous contemporary/camp-type music for the group to sing.

Two area students are spring 2026 graduates at South Dakota State University.

Chiara Thompson of Forest City graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from SDSU's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

Athletico Physical Therapy in Forest City will host Business After Hours on Thursday, Aug. 13 from 5-7 p.m., in conjunction with the Forest City Chamber of Commerce.

Physical therapist Garrett Olson invites the community to attend and learn more about the physical therapy office, which specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation services for all ages.

2015 Winnebago County Fair Queen Rebecca Murray passed on her title to the 2016 Fair Queen, Halle Jo Johnson, during the opening day of the Winnebago County Fair last Thursday, July 21. Johnson, from Leland, is the 17-year-old daughter of Mark Johnson and Lana Heins.
